  • The United Nations system in Bangkok will give an update on the humanitarian assistance provided in response to Cyclone Nargis on Wednesday 14 May, 1100 - 1200, at the Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Thailand (FCCT), Maneeya Center Building, 518/5 Ploenchit Road.

    UNICEF is putting all its efforts to deliver life-saving emergency supplies to the affected children and women in Yangon and Irrawaddy Divisions. The monitoring and follow-up of supply distribution is ongoing, while the teams continue to assess the overall situation of children in affected communities. In both divisions, MCO delivered ORS, water purification chemicals, and essential drugs almost at the same time as rapid assessments are being carried out. 47 townships in Yangon and Irrawaddy Division were affected according to the government announcement. MCO is trying to channel its resources to the hardest hit areas in Irrawaddy and Yangon Divisions so as to maximize the impact of its action.
